together to support and promote agriculture at the KFYR Agri-International "Living Ag Classroom." Capital Electric, Mor-Gran-Sou Electric, KEM Electric, Oliver-Mercer Electric, Basin Electric and the North Dakota Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives join forces with KFYR Radio to teach kids about the production and distribution of food. From the farmer's field to the grocer's shelf, kids learn about the many by-products of crops and animals that are raised in North Dakota.
Steve Markel, account executive of Clear Channel Radio, says the cooperatives made a significant investment to sponsor the Living Ag Classroom. "To us, this donation means quite a bit. We wouldnt have a Living Ag Classroom without their sponsorship," he says.
A large number of schools participate in the Living Ag Classroom. Each year, Co-op employees teach hundreds of fourth-graders about electricity -- what it is, where it comes from, how it is distributed and eventually how it works. They explain the importance and function of rural areas and the work it takes to get food from field to fork.
