This year, Capital Electric received thirty applications for the scholarship. Judging for the scholarship was based on scholastic aptitude and extracurricular activities of the applicant. Our three judges had their work cut out for them, as the applicants were all very much deserving of the scholarship.
Selected by our panel of judges as the winner of the Basin Electric Scholarship for 2005 is Curtis Engelhart. Curtis is a 2005 graduate of Century High School in Bismarck, and plans on studying Biomedical Engineering and Genetics at Rice University in the Fall. After college, he would like to pursue a career in healthcare research or a medical field. Curtis's future plans in this career are to be part of the next generation of design and production of techniques and devices which will greatly benefit society. Curtis is the son of Donald and Laure Engelhart of Bismarck.
We have the pleasure of presenting two Basin Scholarship winners from Capital Electric this year. Each year, we are eligible to send an application to Basin from the child of one our employees who will be attending college this fall. That application is then judged by Basin personnel, who award 20 scholarships to cooperative employee dependents from their 128 distribution cooperatives they serve.
We are pleased to announce that Sidney Ann Lipp, daughter of Ron and Brenda Lipp, was selected as a winner of one of 20 - $1,000 scholarships awarded to cooperative employee dependents from Basin Electric. Sidney's father Ron is the Manager of Engineering and Operations at Capital Electric. Sidney is a 2005 graduate of Century High School and will be attending the University of Northern Colorado, and majoring in Biomedical Sciences. Afterwards, she plans to attend medical school for ophthalmology and pursue a career in that field. She looks forward to staying on the cutting edge of an always changing field as well as be able to provide to others "a new LOOK on life".
