Co-ops promote ELECTRIC HEAT at Home Show

Co-ops joined forces once again at the Bismarck-Mandan

During the Home Show, Josh Schaffner (left), member services assistant at Capital Electric, visited with Vern Dickerson, Bismarck, about plenum heaters.

 Home Builders
Association “Home Show” to provide information on electric heat rates and alternative heating options. Employees from Capital Electric Cooperative, Mor-Gran-Sou Electric Cooperative and Oliver-Mercer Electric Cooperative talked one-on-one with people who wanted more information about electric heat rates and the newest and most innovative electric heating and cooling systems.

Josh Schaffner, member services assistant at Capital Electric, says the three-day Home Show allowed the cooperatives to educate consumers on energy efficiency and conservation.

“Efficiencies and cost comparisons show that using electric heat systems can provide substantial savings over propane and natural gas,” Schaffner says. “Our most innovative system, the ground-source heat pump, can cut our members’ heating costs by two-thirds or more. Interest and installations of geothermal systems have more than doubled in the last year and are expected to keep rising as our members become more informed on the systems.  We have a number of consumers who heat and cool their homes for less than $400 annually.”

The Home Builders Association held the annual Home Show March 9-11 at the Civic Center in Bismarck.
