On Nov. 6, longtime Capital Electric member Wendelyn Krous accepted the 2008 Burleigh County Soil Conservation District Tree Care Award during the district’s annual ceremony. David Liuska, director for the co-op, presented Krous with a plaque. The ceremony was fairly well-attended, despite an early season snowstorm.
The annual tree care award, which is sponsored by Capital Electric Cooperative, is awarded to people who do an outstanding job of caring for and maintaining their wildlife and conservation tree plots.
Over the years, Krous says he’s planted about 10 acres of trees. A resident of Sterling, Krous says he likes trees and the wildlife that come with them. He also appreciates how the trees catch the snow and keep it out of his yard.
Krous, a truck driver for W. Krous Trucking, gives credit to Mother Nature for watering his trees, and to the Burleigh County Soil Conservation for applying the fabric. A few years after the initial planting, he says the trees are almost maintenance-free.
