has sponsored the 2006 Burleigh County Soil Conservation District Tree Care Award. This year, the winners were Greg and Carol Bailey of Baldwin.
The Baileys were recognized for having done an outstanding job of caring for and maintaining their wildlife and conservation tree plots. As the winners, they received a gift certificate and denim shirts that say “Burleigh County Soil Conservation.” Dwight Wrangham, director for Capital Electric, also presented them with a plaque.
Greg says his family was pleased and pleasantly surprised to receive the award. “We didn’t know we did that good of a job,” he says with a laugh.
The Baileys have a variety of trees, which Greg says provides a shelter for pheasants, grouse, and more recently deer.
The tree care award is not the first award given to Greg and Carol, says Vickie Bailey, district clerk of the Burleigh County Soil Conservation District. Back in 1991, the Baileys received the Wildlife Habitat Award, and in 1997 they earned the Established Tree Care Award.
A five-member board determines the winners, Vickie says. The board meets and identifies people throughout the county who have done a good job. Because of their tree plantings, Greg and Carol stood out.
“Tree plantings are a big part of our operation as the Soil Conservation District,” says Vickie. “We congratulate Greg and Carol and commend them for their efforts.”
