Capital Electric Cooperative postpones annual meeting
For the first time in the history of the cooperative, Capital Electric Cooperative’s (CEC) Board of Directors has decided to postpone its annual meeting. The
COVID-19 pandemic has stalled the planning process for this and many other events in our communities.
The Board voted on the decision to postpone the meeting at its March 23 board meeting. CEC’s 74th annual meeting was originally scheduled for June 10.
The meeting has now been rescheduled for Oct. 8. It will be held at the Bismarck Event Center.
“A significant amount of planning goes into the annual meeting process each year,” says CEC Board President Richard Koski. “The Board felt we needed to act quickly to either move forward with the meeting or postpone it. Based on the undetermined nature of the virus situation, we decided it made the most sense to postpone the meeting until this fall.”
In addition to holding the meeting at a new venue this year, there is another significant change as well. The director elections will include the opportunity to vote online up to a month prior to the annual meeting. CEC will provide more detailed information on this process in the near future.
In addition, the independent company that will execute the election process, Survey and Ballot Systems, will send letters to all co-op members to explain the electronic voting process. As in past years, members can also vote in person at the annual meeting.
“Our goal is to engage more of our members in the election process,” says CEC General Manager Paul Fitterer. “Electronic voting will make it possible for all members to participate, even if they can’t attend the annual meeting.” We look forward to seeing many of you at this year’s annual meeting on Oct. 8.
