Hundreds attend EV Tailgate Party
Capital Electric Cooperative (CEC) and the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) welcomed nearly 400 people to the EV Tailgate Party on Thursday, June 17, 2021.
Held on the North Dakota Capitol grounds, the event aimed to raise awareness of the availability, capabilities and benefits of electric vehicles (EVs).
“Over the next ten years, automakers are investing hundreds of billions of dollars in the research, development and marketing of electric vehicles. It’s a changing landscape, and it’s coming faster than you think,” says CEC Energy Services Manager Josh Schaffner. “Capital Electric already has EV charging programs in place, and the co-op is working with NDDOTto establish a local and statewide charging network. Our team is working hard to stay up-to-speed on the latest and greatest in the EV industry. And, we’re here to share that information with our members.”
Attendees had the opportunity to see some of the newest EVs on the market and visit with EV owners about their experience. NDDOT and CEC staff were also on hand to answer questions about EV infrastructure and more.
A variety of EVs and other modes of electric transportation were on display, including:
• CEC’s Chevrolet BOLT,
• Verendrye Electric Cooperative’s Chevrolet Bolt,
• Basin Electric Power Cooperative’s Chevrolet Bolt,
• Lignite Energy Council’s Tesla Model X,
• Bismarck Motor Company’s Volkswagen ID.4,
• Marketplace Ford’s Ford Mach-E Mustang (Devils Lake),
• Harley Davidson’s LiveWire motorcycle,
• Doosan Bobcat’s T7X Loader and E17 electric excavator,
• Bird electric scooters,
• electric golf carts,
• electric lawn mowers and more.
Throughout the event, Border States grilled hamburgers, brats and hot dogs, which were free for attendees.
The event was hosted by CEC and NDDOT. It was sponsored by Border States, the North Dakota Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives, Basin Electric Power Cooperative, Lignite Energy Council, Drive Electric ND, WESCO Distributing, National Information Solutions Cooperative, Puklich Chevrolet and Bismarck Motor Company.
