Paul Fitterer named new co-op general manager
Paul Fitterer, the business manager of Capital Electric Cooperative, Inc., has been named the next general manager. With 20 years of cooperative experience, he will replace Ordean “Lars” Nygren, who retired April. 1 after serving as general manager for more than 32 years.
Fitterer worked at National Information Solutions Cooperative in Mandan for 9 years before starting as Capital Electric’s business manager in 2004.
Arlene Olson, vice president of the Capital Electric board of directors, said the board received applicants from an outstanding group of highly qualified individuals who applied for the position from across the United States. “We reviewed the applications and held a round of interviews, and then narrowed the field to two finalists, and held another round of interviews. At the end of the day, we offered the position to our own Paul Fitterer,” she said.
A native of Juneau, Alaska, Fitterer said he was honored and humbled to be chosen as the cooperative’s next general manager. “Thank you so very much,” he said. “I am proud to be a Capital Electric employee, and proud of the way we all buckle down and roll up our sleeves, and work hard to provide our member-owners with affordable, reliable and safe electric service.”
As business manager, Fitterer worked with accounting, billing decisions, member calls, the planning and implementation of information technology, and supervisory responsibilities.
His formal education also provides a solid foundation for his job responsibilities at the cooperative. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Minnesota State University Moorhead, Moorhead, Minn., and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. He’s also a certified public accountant.
Outside the office, Fitterer is committed to his family, which includes his wife, Danna, and three daughters. Residents of Bismarck, the Fitterers keep busy attending sports and church activities. Fitterer also serves on the Salvation Army Advisory Board and the NISC Member Advisory Committee.
